Simultaneous Traumatic Ipsilateral Posterolateral Knee Dislocation and Ankle Fracture an Unusual Mechanism of Injury: A Case Report and Review of the Literature
Abstract

Traumatic knee dislocation is a rare orthopedic injury. Anterior dislocation (40%) is the most common pattern and occurs due to hyperextension forces; posterior dislocations (33%) are associated with injuries similar to 'dashboard' injuries, which require anteroposterior forces. Unlike knee dislocations, ankle fractures are relatively common. Presenting both injuries at the same time is relatively uncommon. In this paper, we will present and discuss a case with a simultaneous ipsilateral traumatic knee dislocation along with an ankle fracture of the lower limb; to our knowledge, this is the first case with such an injury pattern and unusual mechanism of injury to be reported in the literature.
